local mail delivery issues

Hi,

I have a client with 6 domains, they are all setup on the server but only 2 of them are resolving there at the moment, the other 4 are on other server.

How can I prevent the server from trying to deliver mail locally ?

I have removed the domain from /etc/virtual/domains but then this causes all mail sent to the domain to have a 505 error
 
Remove the DNS entries for the domains that aren't actually hosted on your system yet.

OR

Point the MX to wherever mail is supposed to go for the domains that arent on your system yet.
 
Removing or editing the MX records will NOT resolve the problem.

The correct way to resolve the problem is to uncheck the box under MX records for the domain.

What is the difference between unchecking a box and modifying the entry?

I am not very familiar with DA yet.
 
In it's default configuration the exim mailserver used by DirectAdmin will try local domains locally without checking MX. Why? Because it's more efficient and doesn't waste network resources.

So you have to take the domain out of the local email domains list. You do that by unchecking the box and saving your selection.
