if u edit a dns zone within the admin/reseller dns editor u can change the mx records but u cant select if its a local mail server (like in de mx editor of the user itself).

u need to login as the user to do it.

would be handy if u can add this option to the dns editor itself also.

Yes, I agree with that...

It would be nice to see the option to Enable or Disable the 'Local MX Mail' setting directly from the domains' zonefile in the DNS Administration area, under the Admin Level user.

You have my +1 on this.

It would indeed be nice if it was in the DNS administration as well, no matter which user level.
Even the user can administer DNS itself, he should be able to check that too.

So my +1 too.

I'm on the fence about this.
Yes, it's easy to implement, but the question is: should email settings be changed in the DNS Admin?
One could argue that they're related (a changed in MX dns implies change in email)
I'll wait for more input on this before making a decision.

I don't think this should be implemented, because if you disable local mail, then you should also need to do other changes, like add new MX records for the external mail server.

but the question is: should email settings be changed in the DNS Admin?
Yes, because mx records are part of DNS.
You could split it like is done now, by putting it in the email options, but it isn't expected there normally.
And even if it's present there, it still will be changed in DNS, is part of DNS.
You don't need to move it to DNS administration, but a shortcut (so it's visible at both places) would be fine too.

@Ditto: your argument doesn't matter, because if you change your local mailserver under mx in email options, you still have to add new mx records for the external mail server. And this can also be done in DNS admin, where -all- dns records should in fact be present anyway. And they are, the only thing missing is the option to disable local mailserver.

I think it makes sense to have the "Handle Mail Locally" toggle switch both in the DNS editor as well as in the 'MX Records' section of the domain config.

Many of our non-shared hosting customers using DA do not use DA for handling DNS.

The reason why i ask this is becouse im the server administrator of managed hosting servers.
Last month i had one customer that has 800 domains (read dns entry's) and on like 300 he wanted us to change the mx records.
Well becouse i'm a lasy admin i made a small bash script to do it for me incl the localmail settings.
But if i login as Admin and i need to login as every user will cost me a allot of time.
So i think why the hell can i change the mx records in the admin dns but i can switch the local mail setting.
if u dont want us to change the mx records in the admin dns then u can also remove the option to edit the MX records there.

But Directadmin can make a setting in the directadmin.conf where u can enable this setting if u want it but leave it off by default.
Becouse its a (like allready said) easy thing to implant.

I'm thinking more about this; the real issue is that exim ignores MX settings for local email.

@Terrorhawk:

I believe you can make a script to change the checkbox setting easily enough, or do it manually almost as easily; I believe ll you need to do is remove the domain name from your /etc/virtual/domains file and it will be unchecked in the Interface. Add it, and it will be checked in the interface.

Note, not tested recently and my memory could be wrong; please test manually on one domain.
