Trying to install this calendar software into a database I have created via a php script but it fails even though I have checked logon credentials carefully.

Their forum admin suggests script may be blocked from writing a test file by an .htaccess file in the root folder.

Is this correct and, if so, how can it be overcome?

How does deal with Directadmin? If it's a question of permissions to write into public_html, then you should use either mod_suphp (re-install PHP as CGI) or mod_ruid2.
