Hello,

On a testserver with only 3 domains (noc2go.eu, smsgw.be and as210890.net) i wanted to change the OS from CentOS to Ubuntu 22.04. On the old server, Directadmin was on a Centos 8 virtual machine on Xenserver. On the new server, Directadmin is on a Ubuntu 22.04 virtual machine on ProxMox. I set the new vm on a temporary ip : 44.144.126.20 and installed Directadmin with the credentials from the client panel at directadmin.com. After that, I shut down the old vm on 44.144.126.11, and changed the ip on the new vm from .20 to .11. After that, I restored the backup i've created earlier (admin backup), and put the 3 accounts back using the .11 ip address. Problem is that at this moment, nothing is working. I can access the vm using Proxmox, but not using putty (ssh), nor can I login into directadmin on 44.144.126.11:2222. Did I do something wrong?

EDIT
At this moment i can login at directadmin, but mail isn't possible at all. When I check online, the port 143 is closed. It is open on the hardware firewall, and there is no firewall active at the vm itself.

OK, got some time to work a bit more on this issue. I am happy that this is a vm with a test domain!
So, the server is up-to-date (ubuntu + DA), and the DA license is on the same IP as before : 44.144.126.11
At this moment, i can login into DA using 44.144.126.11:2222, but mail still isn't working.

Just checked for you. Port 25 is open, Exim is working correctly it seems.
Poort 110 is closed, so plain pop3 is not working.
Port 143 is open and Dovecot answers.
I didn't test any other ports.

Hi Richard,
Thanks for your reply. Your conclusion is correct : I use port 143, not 110.

For everybody that want to investigate this problem : i have created a test mailaddress :

Username:
[email protected]
Password:
TestTest123
POP/IMAP Server:
mail.as210890.net
SMTP Server:
mail.as210890.net port 587

Ah.. mailserver not configured correctly.

Incoming mail to the test accounts works fine.
Outgoing did not arrive so I tried on a personal account on the server and found this in the log:
ReverseDNS: No reverse DNS for mailserver at 44.144.126.11, +100 Spam score

So I think this is your problem. Reverse DNS not set yet.

Hi Richard,
I am aware of the outgoing mail problem due to the rDNS that isn't configured. But in my case it is the incoming mail that fails. Strange that it works over there?
