what mail server does direct admin use? I'm looking for the manual config files on ahow to setup users and what not.

you don't know where i can find the exim config file do you? or the name of it?

Or what dir the vaction messages or where the user info is stored? LOL thanks
Anthony

Not sure if it depends on your operating system, but this is from mine, Freebsd.

The exim configure is at /etc/exim.conf
All the user information etc is in the /etc/virtual/domains directory I beleive.

Sorry to do this to you, after removing direact admin becuaes of the problems i have to leaern how the system works.

How is your virutal domains setup? What i mean is what do you r user files look like. Becuase i have no idea how to create mail account atm becuase of da.

Reinstall directadmin then you can create accounts through it :p

Well the exim.conf has pointers and such to the /etc/virtual/domains list
The domains list does what it has, list of all domains.
Then in the /etc/virtual there are directories for each domain and in the domain directories are the vacation.conf, filter.conf, autoresponder.conf etc.

when you say the domain. Where do i configure the users at? Is their a file that list all the users for one domain?

Thank you again for your help and patients.

Anthony

Yes its named "passwd" and is located in /etc/virtual/the_domain.

In the file the user format is username:encrypted_password

At what level?

If you're trying to learn the ins and outs of the technical stuff DA does, then the best way will be to get a trial license or a rental license, and put it on a local system at your home/office (yes, you need a static-IP for that).

If you're just trying to learn how DA works, and you can't figure out what you need to know from the demos, perhaps I can set you up with a demo reseller account on my testbed system, or even let you use the testbed system (with a new, fresh DA install on it, on WBEL) for a week or two.

You can try to break my testbed system, if you want; you can do just about anything to it as long as you don't DOS or spam anyone or host (even temporarily, warez or porn) as after your use period is up I'll wipe the box.

There's generally no charge to use the testbed system as long as I'm not in need of it.
