Mailboxes gone, but folder structure still remains.

Hi,

I've tried searching the forums already, but couldn't find anything related to the problem I'm experiencing right now.

A while ago one of the users on our server with DirectAdmin reported that his e-mail was no longer functioning normally. When we logged in we noticed that under "E-mail Accounts" all e-mailaddresses had vanished, except for two. Our first reaction was that it might be removed manually by someone who has access to the specific DirectAdmin user account.

On closer look, we found that the entire folder structure was still present on the server. For example, the folder "/imap/exampledomain.nl/info/Maildir" still contained around 300MB. The mailbox "[email protected]" was not listed under "E-mail Accounts" though.

I've tried going through log files to find out what happened, but I'm not getting anywhere and hope someone can point me in the right direction.

Thanks in advance for any tip!

Regards,

Dennis Homberg

Hello,

Do you see the account in /etc/virtual/exampledomain.nl/passwd ? /etc/virtual/exampledomain.nl/aliases ? Remember the files` modified time and find POST requests for that time in /var/log/directadmin/2014-*.log that might give some clues.

Hi zEitEr,

Thanks so much for the tips. The customer had requested that a backup was restored, so I don't know if checking it right now would give me any clues.
Should it occur again, I will definitely follow your steps.

Greets,

Dennis.
