Is there some documentation that explaining the Mailing List settings? I just moved my domain from a host that used cPanel with Mailman to a host that uses DirectAdmin with this mailing list. I have printed off a 10 page document which is a start, but it doesn't tell me near enough about the different fields when setting up the Mailing List.

For instance, the drop down values for:
  • Get Access (Open Closed List)
  • Index Access (Open Closed List)
  • Info Access (Open Closed List)
  • Intro Access (Open Closed List)
  • Which Access (Open Closed List)
What do the drop down valude (in the parens) mean and what setting do I want? Of course, tehre a lots of other fields that I can only guess at whatthe settings should be. LIke what the heck is a Mungedomain?

I have a very small group (about 12 people) who are the only ones to access the mailing list. It is not to be a public list. It is for use by our Board of Governors (BOG) only.

I'd appreciate any assistance here. The members of the BOG are getting antsy.

DirectAdmin uses Majordomo for mailing lists. Full documentation for Majordomo may be found here.

Easier said than done. I have been going through that location for over an hour, and to try and find actual docs is impossible as far as I can determine. So far I have had no success in finding an answer to any question I have had. :(

Majordomo was designed by and for geeks. Quite some time ago.

I learned all about it by buying and reading this book. A long time ago. About nine years ago, in fact.

Before that I read this book, which was published 13 years ago (but I didn't buy it until two years later ;) ), which has a lot of good information as well (but the first mentioned book is better, and still in print).

There are two important files you can and should read; they're part of the Majordomo distribution but they're not on the DA server, and they're hard to find. I've published generic versions of them, on the 'net: The Majordomo README file, and the Majordomo List-Owner-Info file. Back in the good old days :) we customized the List-Owner-Info file and sent it to new users.

I've already pointed you to all the Majordomo documention which exists. Other than all of this, and subscribing to the Majordomo mailing lists, there's not really anything else I know of.

So I hope I've been helpful.

Jeff
