Hi Everyone,

One of my users recently started to use the mailling list system.

The user is complaining that mail is being delivered to the users twice. I am in the process of ensuring that the users that have reported it are not in the list twice. (there are about 1000 addresses in the list)

As far as i am aware, all users received 2 copies. (including myself)

Im still waiting to make sure that its not just duplicate addresses but thought i would post here incase someone recognises the problem.

If anyone does recognise this, it would be very much appreciated if you could let me know what it is.

Many Thanks,

- James

Urm,

Just received a 3rd message.
The messages seem to be about 2k bigger each time they come in.

is there any sort of logfile that i can check to see what majordomo is doing? There doesnt appear to be much in exim's mainlog

Sounds like a loop.

Be sure the listname isn't subscribed to the list.

Jeff

No, I cant see it anywhere.

here is some extra info that might help..

there are 2 lists setup..
the first one is called 'thelist' and contains the actual mailing list
the second one is called 'adminlist' and contains a couple of addresses that are allowed to send to the list.

'thelist' has the following options set in the DA control panel.

Get, Info, Which, Index & Intro access set to Closed
Who access was set to List but i have set it to Closed now. (i have no idea what these are. Im assuming that they are for the more advanced features where many people send to the list. In this case, we only want one address to be able to send to the list.)

Precedence = bulk
Purge Received = No
restrict post = listadmins (this is the bit that i used to limit the posting to the members of the 'adminlist' list. I may be wrong here, i read about this on google groups.)
Strip = Yes
Subject Prefix = <blank>
max length = 40000
subscribe policy = open
unsubscribe policy = open

I can also confirm now that everyone on the list that we have contacted did receive 3 copies.
the first at 9.26am, 9.56am, 9.57am

Anyone who has any suggestions, please help. :)

Many Thanks,

- James

1) check every mailing address on thelist to make sure it doesn't forward to the thelist address.

2) read the documentation I've offered the community here so you understand all there is to understand about Majordomo.

3) Read the resources and follow the suggestions for help found here.

Majordomo is a great (though somewhat dated) project still used by thousands (perhaps hundrds of thousands) of administrators to send email; the best place to get help on it is definitely from the Majordomo community.

Jeff

Thanks Jeff,

I will have a good look through the links you provided. :)
(I have been really struggling to find any documentation for majordomo, i was about to pay a visit to amazon and look for a book on it.)

You're welcome :).

I don't believe there have ever been any books published on just Majordomo.

O'Reilly's "Managing Mailing Lists" has a chapter on Majordomo, as does their "Managing Internet Information Services"; both are quite old and probably won't have the information you need.

Jeff

Is any solution to this problem?

I have exactly the same problem and i am searching for the solution approximately for 2 weak and cannot find any helpful information.

If anyone had the same problem and have resolved it please post hear.

thanks.
