main site redirect with local subdomains

i know how to create seperate redirects for each subdomain, but how do i redirect the top level site "/" and have local subdomains that i can still access?

for example, i want to redirect www.foo.com to foreign server www.bar.com but have dev.foo.com resolve on my server.

because subdomains are implemented as sub folders, can i do this at all?

Just create your subdomain as if it were it's own domain.

The only problem this will give you is that DNS won't be automatic; you'll have to assign NS zone records in DNS at the main domain to get the subdomain on a different server to resolve.
