Maintenance mode, how to?

When certain updates are executed through CustomBuild, a message appears that says something like this: "Avoid adding new users or making modifications." However, I find this a bit ironic since there is no maintenance mode that can directly block the API or actions from the panel.

How can this actually be avoided? What is the best way to prevent account manipulation while pending updates are being installed?

Directadmin does not have a maintenance mode, as far as I know. The only reason on why you are suggested that you avoid adding new users is that manipulation of such a kind might require a restart or reload of running services. And since they are in a process of upgrading, they might fail to reload/restart, this way you will get a downtime. No other consequences are coming to my mind.

You might disable API by listing commands in commands_force_deny temporary.
