Hi all,

I have a problem with my server. Pretty sure its named causing the issue. Anyhow I wil reboot the server and it comes back up, now a days I have to login to directadmin via ip and restart named. Why directadmin instead of shell? Because it hangs on login(entering of password) and I cant get in. At all.

Now the server will last about 12 hours and then do this again.

What should I do?

Suggestions?

Hmm... this sounds like maybe an IPTABLES issue rather than a NAMED issue... have you tried looking at your firewall - or the settings via iptables -L right after a reboot?

If you can't get into shell at all, perhaps ask your datacenter if they can put it into single user mode (done at the console) and have them peek at iptables

Thing is.. I know for a fact named is failing. Because when I go to restart it in directadmin is says the service has stoped, and then it comes back up when I click on restart. However half the other services are affected by this as well.

Its very odd. I thought it was the firewall at first but I turned off APF which is what I was using.

However I will have a look at it.

Have you looked at the log files (i.e. /var/log/messages if you are on RedHat)? Anyhing about named going down? Also look around for any core files.
