Hi,

a customer of mine asked me for a feature.

In another panel he use somewhere else on majordomo he got an option to set for the alias.

So, he can set where redirect mail coming to owner-LISTNAME@DOMAIN for catch those email.

In DA this option is not present (i suppose is just a skin related problem/fr) so i hope this can be done for next release (or pre-release for have it faster :) )

Thanks and Regards

Search these forums for information on the list-owner-info file for new Majordomo lists.

Jeff

Thanks Jeff,

ive made the search and i found just 2 post where are described where files are and maybe how to edit (i didnt investigated enough on that) but nothing related to the skin as i would prefer to let users manage their own ML without bouncing me everytime for an edit :)

Ill look into this forward information that i need for now.. but hope this request will be consider.

Regards

Ok found what to edit:

Code:
/etc/virtual/DOMAIN/majordomo/list.aliases

Modify

Code:
owner-LISTNAME: EMAIL

and

Code:
LISTNAME-owner: EMAIL

Hope John would take a look into this request for let user do this automatically.

Regards

Or send a customized copy of the list-owner-info file to every new list owner; that's what the MajorDomo people intended.

Jeff

excuse me for the stupid question Jeff but i really didnt understand what you mean for send a customized copy, if the file have to be edited manually from console how can be related what you sayd?

Sorry, im totally not expert on majordomo and im trying to figure out how to improove service to customer (i dont use to provide majordomo cause i dont know how to mange it, but, this customer asked harded for this and thats why he got it...).

Every more suggestion/help you will provide, as usual, is greatly appreciated.

Regards

Have you read the file from my site? It contains sample and place-holder information. If you or DirectAdmin are going to send it to the mailing list owner, it'll need to be customized for the specific mailing list first.

Jeff

The list-owner-info file teaches the user how to maintain Majordomo by sending emails. Majordomo was designed for management by email, not by web or control panel.

The problem is my example hasn't been modified to suit the specific mailing list set up by the user using the control panel, so either you should send the user one modified for his site, or at least make a copy, put it on your site, and refer users to it, but explaining to them which parts have to be replaced with information applicable to their own list.

Jeff

Ok, i think i got what you mean.

Ill tell to this user to learn how to mange majordomo with email and i will send your example file.

Cause im totally newbie on majordomo i dont know how and what tell to user about how to work with it.

Regarding this

"so either you should send the user one modified for his site"

you mean send the list.aliases file to the user so he can check the configuration and make changes using email or you mean send it so user edit it and send me back edited?

Ofc, if i (or my user) was expert on majordomo this problem was easy to solve, but for newbie, the directadmin integration still should be the better way, at least for main functions as it is now.

Regards and thanks

If you read my sample file you'll see it referes to a sample mailing list. Easiest way to make sure is to make changes to the file so it refers to your user's list, and then send that modified file to him as an explanation.

To use options available in Majordomo not implemented in Directadmin, one of you, either you or your users, is going to need to learn how to modify it through email. It's how plenty of us, I and others, did it for many years. Majordomo even predates the Web.

I don't mind adding features for things like this.. I'm just not quite sure what this accomplishes though, eg: changing:
Code:
owner-LISTNAME: EMAIL
to
Code:
LISTNAME-owner: EMAIL
What exactly does that do?

If you just mean you want the ability to change the EMAIL value, let me know.

Hi John,

is not the first to second but are both value to change, yes, just the ability to change the email i mean for those value, and if possible some more like for example digest :)

Thanks

My customer sayd he talked with some majordomo expert and that he sayd that there is no way to change owner-listname@domainame using email with majordomo and eh asked me, to ask you (Jeff) if you can tell me the command to send via e-mail for change this setting.

Regards and Thanks

Of course I can be wrong; I haven't used the internals of Majordomo for more than a few years. If it's not in the list-owner-info file, it probably doesn't exist, but I strongly suggest checking the online documentation. Or asking questions on the majordomo-users list.

Jeff

Forgive me for butting in, what has Spamassassin (title of topic) got in relation to Majordomo (body of topic)? Am I missing the point somewhere?

Over a week and I never noticed this. I just changed the thread subject.
