Migrating from one DA server to another...

Situation:

I have two pieces of hardware. Server A and Server B.

I own IP block X.X.X.1 - X.X.X - 254.

Server A is my current machine and hosts X.X.X.4 up to X.X.X.125.

I am adding Server B (Hardware Upgrade) which has its own DA License and have IP'ed it at X.X.X.3.

Both are running the same DA versions and working great.

Server A is RHEL3 and Server B is RHEL4.

How can I migrate the entire DA setup from Server A into Server B (including IP's) easily :)

Anyone with info would be appreciated!

DA has two backup methods. One is the serverwide sysbk (admin) backup. Which is great for entire-server backups, but the only way to restore them is with intelligent manual merge and copy.

The other is the reseller backup.

We've run into a lot of problems with it this week, but if you have the two servers up concurrently you should be able to make it all happen.

The biggest problem is that if you move the IP#s the second server will start trying to ask for those IP#s as soon as the restore is made. How that will affect your internet connection depends on how your network is configured.

It's not an easy enough process to describe in a few seconds, but it is doable.

Hrmm... I was hoping for an answer that was a little more promising :)

I wonder if I can setup user accounts and let the users migrate their own sites...

Once you've set up the resellers and restored them (backup and restore them from the resellers' user panels), backup and restore will probably work for many of your users.

DNS will either be changed to the new server or restored to the old DNS.

If there are problems with the restore the reseller's message system will show them.

We had problems which we eventually figured out.
