Hey all!
I need some advice / suggestions here. I've been a LONG time user of DirectAdmin and still love that it continues to update and I have an easy interface to use when needed. I have since gotten out of the hosting business because my main business has taken off immensly and I no longer want to chase people for payment, fix their problems, etc. I've downsized my "customers" to my own business, my own personal sites, my wife's business and a couple of friends that I host for at no charge.
Long story short, after I pulled out of my cage at a local datacenter, I was able to squeeze all of this onto a friends Proxmox box. I have since purchased a bare metal dedicated server under my business and need some suggestions. I have like 50 DA VPS licenses in my account right now. My thoughts was to basically create LXC containers for my personal stuff, one for my wifes business, one for my business, and one for everyone else. I'm tired of someone's non-updated code causing the whole server to get mx blacklisted or something silly.
So that leaves me to figure out the best way to manage DNS for all of these. Currently, I have 2 $5 VPS at digital ocean and Atlantic set up as slaves (hidden master) and I use a custom script to rsync any zones up to them. I'm trying to eliminate my hosting company (true negative) name from any/all of this.
I'm thinking I have a couple options:
- Roll two new VPS servers to act as bind dns servers with some kind of new generic domain. (Maybe one locally as another LXC)
- Same as above, but use DirectSlave to manage that.
- Use CloudFlare to manage the external DNS.
- Some combination of the above
- Other thoughts?
Thanks everyone. It's been great learning from you all and helping where I can. I won't go away permanently I'm sure, but not being responsible for other people's business websites, etc, will definitely be a weight off my shoulder!
