Hi all,

Ive got a new server and want to migrate DirectAdmin and WHMCS from an FreeBSD 6.2 RELEASE to a RHEL5 machine.

I know there are a few ways of migrating;

Make backups of all users / resellers and admins, create new ones on the new machine and restore all.

Make a Full system backup using the admin backup / restore and restore it on your new machine (cant trust this one to be honest, its still in beta aswell.

So still a few questions on my mind.

Licencing. I have read somewhere that you can obtain a temp. license for migration pruposes? Anyone know more about this?

Second, i want a good / stable way of migration, Tips anyone? Meaning, has anyone has experience migrating from one os to another?

Thanks in advance!

Regards,

Richard.

We've migrated lots of servers, but only a few times between OS Distributions.

You'll need a license for the new server as well as for the original one.

If any of your sites are MySQL driven you'll probably want to disable them as soon as they're backed up so no one will be writing to the site on the old server before the new one is ready.

We create resellers on the new machine and then use reseller backup/restore.
