Mirror from on hdd to another on same machine just to have back up

I was thinking about it is it wise to do i have done google search and got me to centos community and there i did not find any solutions that answered my question if you guys could help me i would be very thankful..

Why not just a RAID controller and setup a RAID1?

Our linux software RAID.

However be aware that mirroring is not a viable method for backup, as at the same moment the first drive is changed the mirror drive is changed as well, so the backup copy is the same as the original.

Better to mount a separate drive, back up server to it, and unmount it.

Better still to backup to a drive on a separate server.
