Hi All,

I have a question about the account moving of DA.

I have a server with a DA lifetime license (w/IP: 202.x.x.x ). I need to moving all the users to new server which in the other Data Center (w/IP 203.x.x.x). Not server re-location. What is the step of moving?

My planning step:
1) Use Admin backup which in the DA server (w/IP: 202.x.x.x)
2) Contact DA sales to update the license to new IP 203.x.x.x .
(DA stopped but all service still running, Right?)

3) Install DA to new server (w/IP 203.x.x.x)
4) Copy users backup into new server and then restore all users backup

Any problem about the step?

Please help. Thank you very much!

Which admin backup do you mean? The system backup? Or the admin/reseller/user backup now in beta? If the former, there's no easy restore function; you'll have to do the restore manually. If the latter, that's still in beta and we don't rely on it, though some people have said it works, I'd only use it if both servers were going to remain running in case it had problems.

What we do is recreate the resellers on the new servers manually, then make and restore reseller level backups.

I wouldn't want DirectAdmin on the old machine down if it were me; I'd probablly contact DA to find out about getting a temporary license for the old machine and the permanent license transferred to the new machine before doing the transfer.

You didn't indicate whether or not you have multiple IP#s and if the IP#s for the domains were going to change on the new server. If they are, then you'll have to change the IP#s for the nameservers at the registrars where the domains are published so visitors will find the sites on the new server. If you're using the same IP#s they may not be available from the new machine until the old machine is shut down.

Don't forget any sites using MySQL. Generally if sites allow users to post anything to databases, we shut down the site on the old server before we transfer it, so as to avoid losing database information.
