I have made a mysql.cnf for mysql 8

[client]
port            = 3306
socket          = /var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock
default-character-set=utf8


[mysql]
default-character-set=utf8


[mysqld]
local-infile = 0
port            = 3306
socket          = /var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock
collation-server = utf8_unicode_ci
character-set-server = utf8
default_authentication_plugin = mysql_native_password
max_user_connections=800
max_connections=1000
interactive_timeout=10
wait_timeout=20
connect_timeout=20

Put it to /etc/my.cnf

You don't need the port setting as 3306 is used by default.

I would NEVER put a password for the mysql server in the /etc/my.cnf file. There are better and safer ways.
