Hello,

On my phone it automatically works by selecting smtp and filling in my email and password nothing more. But on my computer in Microsoft outlook it does not work, and I also see no options for filling in smpt details etc..

But roundcube does work on computer.

Can someone please help me with this, thank you so much.

(edit) It does work automatically in mozilla thunderbird, but it says the smtp is not encrypted
Kind regards,

Raies

This is a forum for admins. You should contact your host about your problem.
Seems to me that your Outlook (probably 2016 or 2019?) is trying to connect via SSL, TLS or Starttls and something is not correct at your host.
It's really pity that newer Outlook's make it so difficult to just fill in your own setup if needed.

Try like this. Remove the account first.
Then do like this:
  1. Open Outlook 2016 or Outlook 2019.
  2. Click File
  3. Click Add new account
  4. Fill in your email address
  5. Click on "advanced options"
  6. Select the option "I want to setup my account manually.
Names might differ a little bit, I translated this from the Dutch language.

If this does not help, contact your hosting company for support.

Hi Richard,
I am running directadmin on a VPS for experimenting and learning purposes. I dont think my host is willing to help because it is not a managed vps.
Thanks for the information I will try that.
Kind regards,
Raies

Ah I'm sorry, since it was your first post and you were instantly asking about Outlook, I thought you were a customer. My mistake.

In that case try the information, it should work. In the automatic setup Outlook is probably trying to connect to port 465 automatically (or 587 maybe, not sure about that I'm using 2013), if that fails to work you have to check if Letsencrypt is installed correctly including mail_sni and if ssl certificates were made for the domain including for things like mail/smtp and pop.

In addition to that, also Exim and Dovecot should have been updated if all is well.

You can compare with Thunderbird how TB is loggin in, if not encrypted then probably my idea about Letsencrypt not being fully installed is correct. We can have a look at that too if you want.
