MySQL error '/tmp/mysql.sock' (2)

Hi i am from iceland and i am not so good in english (Technical) talk. So i try my best.

I buy DirectAdmin to day and i love it so much i want to married it. But i have one issue.. BIG issue..

The MySQL server i did /etc/init.d/mysqld stop for some reason don't ask me why, and how i try to start it again it will run SSH but i get this every time when i login to something mysql-connect:

Error connecting to MySQL: Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/tmp/mysql.sock' (2)

Why is that :/
Can sombody help me.

Not a bad idea to kill all mysql processes - check "ps -waux | grep mysql" - and then restart.

I've also had to restart directadmin service to correct errors like this ... and then in some severe cases restart the whole server.

I found that the mysqld errors are usually on an older operating system (in my case I had Debian 3.1 - upgraded to Debian 5 and the problems went away).

I've also read on here people have problems with MYSQL if they performed an upgrade (Debian: apt-get dist-upgrade).
