mysqld.sock disappeared

Hi,

Some time ago, we had to move the server upstairs. When I turn on the server on, mysql is not running. mysqld.sock file isappeared from the /tmp/, so I create new one
touch /tmp/mysqld.sock
chmod 777 mysqld.sock
chown mysql:mysql /tmp/mysqld.sock

Then create symlink to /var/run/mysqld/

When I try start mysql server, file mysqld.sock disappears.
I try find something on /var/log/messages but there is noting about mysql.

Any ideas why mysql won't start?
I also tried killall mysqld
killall -9 mysqld

I have read most of the topics here on the forum about mysqld.sock, but I found no solution to the problem.

My box running Debian 5 (32bit)
 
Check the mysql error file.

/var/lib/mysql/<yourhostname>.err
 
Resolved.


I dont't know how, but mysql uses /etc/mysql/my.cnf instead of /etc/my.cnf

In /etc/mysql/my.cnf was #skip-innodb, but I had innodb databases on my box. It looks like it was a reason for not starting the mysql server. I've deleted /etc/mysql/my.cnf and now mysql works fine.

You'll probably want a my.cnf file, so you can make sure your mysql installation is as efficient as possible for your installation.

Where it is depends on how you've installed MySQL.

You can simply set the my.cnf file to allow innodb databases; Google is your friend if you don't know how to do that.
