I purchased a server for a client that came with DirectAdmin. The client has 30 IP addresses. Can he use one nameserver with the 30 IPs, or would he need several nameservers?

He only needs one nameserver. But he really should have two, on separate IP#s, even on separate subnets.

By two, I assume you mean...

Examples:
ns1.domain.com 123.456.78.90
ns2.domain.com 123.456.78.91

Unfortunately, only one subnet.

Of course by your example they could then even be on one server.

And he may need two nameservers; some registrars require them. Some in fact (I think the top-level domain registrar for .de requires they be on separate subnets.

We and others offer slave DNS at affordable prices. We use our master2slave DNS replicator so when you or your users add domains you don't have to visit a site to update the slave service.

OK... I have the nameservers setup and the IPs were added to DirectAdmin. Some domains have the following message:

"Apache is functioning normally"

While others receive a taking to long to respond message.

Any idea's?

Here are some sites where we are having issues:

cabj.org - server not responding

cmfr.com - server not responding

e-stat.org - "This IP is being shared among many domains. To view the domain you are looking for, simply enter the domain name in the location bar of your web browser."

adiuri.com - This IP is being shared among many domains. To view the domain you are looking for, simply enter the domain name in the location bar of your web browser."

Server support not much help.

All of these work fine from here. If you're still having problems than my guesses would be that you've either got old or bad dns cached somewhere, or your browser or ISP is caching old content, or you've got bad IP#s in your hosts file.

Or someone may be successfully attacking DNS; that happens to gambling sites from time to time, as part of an attempt to extort ransom for getting the site back.
