Ok, here is the situation. Before i used DA i used another host for website hosting and a different mailserver (which i admin for a company *mdaemon*)
So my registrar is setup for the web requests to go to DA and the mx to goto a different mailserver. I have used it this way for years and now have many email accounts on that domain.

What steps should I do to transition everyone from the other mailserver onto DA?

I have already configured them mail accounts on DA and used imapsync to transfer over their emails, etc.

I would really like to move myself first to make sure this works before telling the registrar to use my DA's nameserver and possibly screwing something up with all the email on that domain.

Any help will be much appreciated!

I think that what you're trying to do is use an external server to manage email. Is that correct?

If so, then there are many posts on these forums on how to do that.

First the admin account has to give the reseller, and the reseller give the user, permission to manage DNS.

Then from the DirectAdmin user login click on MX Records, and change the MX Record to point to the server which will actually be managing the email.

Then either check or uncheck the checkbox based on which server is managing the email, and save.

Remember the email settings on the DirectAdmin server will still be visible but will not be active; you'll be responsible for managing email on the external mail server.

Actually what I want to do is transition all the mail from a 3rd party mailserver onto Directadmin. Basically the opposite of what you said, sorry for the confusion.
-Thanks

If you publish the standard DirectAdmin created zone, all email will come to your DirectAdmin server. If you can't use the DirectAdmin created zone, then at least add the MX records pointing to the DirectAdmin server, and as I mentioned before, make sure the checkbox is set so your DirectAdmin server will accept the email.

You have to create the mailboxes, forwarders, etc., yourself.

You said you have used imapsync already, so I assume it's working for you? I have used imapsync few times before, and it worked as expected.
