Hi,

I need some advice re dns setup with DA. i am going to run DA on a dedicated server with one ip. This server is hosted by a different company who are giving me this IP. My question is, do i set up dns on my server or do i use the dns belonging to the company? what is the normal procedure?

DirectAdmin automatically sets up DNS for domains created by admin, resellers and users. Does your hosting company's DNS do that same setup automatically (it may; you'll need to ask them), or will you have to add those zones manually?

If you set up multiple nameservers with the same IP#s some registrars for some top-level domains won't allow you to have two nameservers in the same domain work from the same IP. You can get around this by using two different domains for your nameservers, but then many registrars won't allow you to register domains using those nameservers.

And for those that do, if anyone ever looks up the domain in DNSReport, they'll see an error.

You really should have two different nameservers on two different domains, and preferably on two different networks. You may want to ask your hosting company what they recommend.

If both servers run DirectAdmin you can use the Multi Server Setup link from the admin login. If the slave isn't a DirectAdmin server you might want to look at Master2Slave (which I distribute) discussed elsewhere on these forums.
