For general hosting I use generic server names, and sites with certs get their own IP. There is only one domain of note on a server that I'm setting up. Let me know if you see any holes in this plan.
IPs.
123.123.123.3 server.mydomain.com
123.123.123.3 www.mydomain.com (with cert)
123.123.123.3 mail.mydomain.com
123.123.123.3 ns1.mydomain.com
123.123.123.4 ns2.mydomain.com
123.123.123.3 anotherdomain1.com
123.123.123.3 anotherdomain2.com
123.123.123.4 www.e-tailer.com (with cert.)
ptr record for 123.123.123.3 www.mydomain.com
The cert would be for www.mydomain.com installed as the shared cert on the server. If anyone connected to other than www.mydomain.com they would get the error that they don't match. All mail and services would be seen as coming from mydomain.com. However, there are other domains that address.
Do you see any trouble with that?
Thanks!
