Hi everybody,

Here's the situation, we're running two DA machines in our "old" DC. Now we want to install two new machines in our new DC that should replace the two "old" ones.

Now I've got some questions:

1. Can I easily restore all my users on the new servers? Will http://www.directadmin.com/change_ip.txt the only things I need to do?

2. Would it be possible to run the "old" and new next to eachother? (I case something goes wrong, I can still change to the "old" server)

3. How would I fix DNS? On the "old" servers I have ns1 and ns2, but I want ns1 and ns2 moved to our new servers (with new IP's)

Anyone did this before? I'd be nice to have some sort of manual to go through this process.

If you guys need more information, please let me know and I'll post it for you!

Thanks in advance,

Regards, Jeroen.

1. Change ip is only useful if you are keeping the same server. Sounds like you are moving users to a new server.

This is probably what you need instead: http://help.directadmin.com/item.php?id=57

2. You have to have a directadmin license for each directadmin server you have. You can get a temporary license for the move but to keep it for a while you need to purchase a 2nd one.

3. You update the dns records where you registered the domain name. Then copy the dns zone files over from your old server to the new.

Thanks chatwizrd!

One more question tho, the nameserver for the domains are based on names (not directly to IP) so I'm still confused how to migrate the name servers.

Thanks for explaining,

Jeroen.

I think the Jeroen means that he's using the same names for the nameservers, changing only the IP#s at the registrar to move them.

Jeroen, if that's correct then you'll have to change the nameserver registrations at the registrar(s) for the nameserver domain(s) after you've moved the domains.

Checking the domains on the old server vs the new is a bit complex; you'll have to use a different method for checking the sites on both servers since you can't do it by typing the domain name into the URL; see each server's welcome message to determine how to see the site on both servers.
