New Server Move/Upgrade to Dovecot

I just got a new server, and the old server was running DA with Dovecot. I transferred all users I needed to (over 100) over to the new server, but didn't realize that it wasn't running Dovecot.

My question is this, if I upgrade to Dovecot on the new server, will it append the Mbox style email to the existing Maildir email, or will it delete all the Maildir email first? Is it safe to upgrade to Dovecot without losing any of my users email?
 
When you convert over all the email in Mbox format will be converted over to Maildir.
 
I understand that. All new email after the move has been stored as Mbox, but there is existing Maildir email on the server as well from the old server. I'm wondering if the conversion will overwrite that existing Maildir email or if it will append it to the existing Maildir email.
 
I have done it before with no problems. But to be safe you should always make backup of your files.
 
Alright, I'll give it a shot then.

For testing purposes, is there any way to do the conversion with one user only?

That feature will be added into the next release of directadmin. It has not been implemented yet.
