New server - sorting out DNS?

I've just got myself a dedicated server with Direct Admin installed, and am having a little trouble getting DNS working - namely, how do I get my domain to point to my server?

What I am attempting to do is run a DNS on my server, under two of the five free IP addresses I have (and will it be possible for ns1.domain.com and ns2.domain.com to resolve to them?) - so first of all, how do I assign those IP addresses?

Secondly, how do I point the domain to the server? Normally changing the nameservers for the domain would do it, but obviously there is a catch-22 situation here! Should I point the domain to the server IP addresses (and will this allow subsequent domains to use the domain?)

An additional question as well: Will I need to open port 53 (tcp/udp?) for this to work?

Thanks for any help you can offer.

I *hope* I've sorted this one (but we'll see in the morning when everything propagates...)

For reference:
This article was started with - it covers configuring the servers and IP addresses in DirectAdmin

Then configuration in the domain control panel: first map the nameserver domains to ip's, then set the nameservers of the domain.

I have my fingers firmly crossed, but everything seems to be working.

Since you didn't tell us your domain information we can't debug anything for you.

Did you register the nameservers at the same registrat where you registered your domain name? If you haven't done that you will at least occasionally have problems.
