Hi guys. This is my first post in forum and I feel like I have a very long way to go. Ok I have windows servers using awbs and helm4 control panel. But I can administrate windows boxes no problem. I want to start linux stuff. What I am planing to do is installing a shared web hosting linux box and integrate with awbs. Please share your suggestions with me:

I want to use centos as I learnt that is very commonly used. But as know absoultly nothing about centos or linux :). I do not know where to start. Do I have to use that black console screen, or do I have a chance to use a gui or maybe gui with remote desktop. I know I need to use something like putty. But for that I will need to know the command. So any suggestion where to start would be helpful.
Also I can not see trial license am I right?

For joe-average... you can use the web-based control panel that DirectAdmin provides to manage most of the items you will want.

You could use remote X to the box (with either NoMachineX or VNC) to manage the machine graphically when required. Many people will tell you not to install a desktop environment on a server however!

In any instance, use the DirectAdmin web-interface to control the majority of items... and over time experiment with Linux at the command line.

Like it or not, in order to fully manage a Linux box.. you're going to need to learn the command line. It's much more powerful than a GUI anyway. :P

BTW: There are no 'trail' licenses for DirectAdmin. It's cheap enuff that you can just buy it. You'll also find it's quite slick.
If you want to see it in action.. look on the main directadmin website and try the demo.

Thank you very much. So as far as I understand I should try to get used to command line. With DA, can I manage the server for example majorty settings? In what kind of situation I may need to use console? Also can you suggest me a useful link for centos commands? And lastly, what is the biggest disadvantages of using gui? Performance..?, power of managing?
Can I later on change the license ip of direct admin?
Thank you.
