I already own a DA licence and I know it's only limited to 1 ip/system but for testing/learning purposes I would like to know if it's possible to install it on a personal pc I have lying around. Basically offline usage only and only time it will be online is for updates.

I'm fairly new to this so I want to test it on my own pc instead of stuffing up my server and reinstalling as it's a lengthy process.

Searched the forum and knowledge base but found nothing :s

Another option would be to rent a small VPS for testing; they can usually be completely rebuilt with one click. That's what we ended up doing when we decided to no longer maintain static IP#s at our office.

there is no offline version. Buy a 2nd copy if you want.

still requires a valid license

I keep forgetting I can change the ip's on my licenses at will. But still only one license required. He already has one. He can use the one he has. He does not need a second one for private network use.

floyd i got a simple question for you, i saw ur guideline for use DA on a LAN Test Server, but, im thinkin about NAT IP.. Ive got Dynamic IP, so, that mean everytime my ip change ive to notify DA to update the IP into the license?

Thanks

The only time you need to notify DA about an ip change is when you need to get the update or when your copy of DA is doing its periodic license check. I use a lifetime license so it never has to do a license check.

I do not know much about custombuild but I do not think it depends on a license or ip.

Custombuild doesn't do a license check.

My lifetime licenses do check the IP# from time to time. Yours don't?

Jeff

I was told by JBMC in an email and on the forum that lifetime licenses do not do checks.

Thanks, Floyd. I've just reread John's post on that thread and what he wrote was that in the absence of a licensing server DirectAdmin would continue to run. To me that's not exactly the same thing, but I'll watch more carefully in the future; maybe DirectAdmin is only checking my server when it does updates.

Again, thanks!

Jeff

I reread my post too and it was not exactly clear. But you guys are supposed to know what I mean. :D

And again if this type of use of a license is frowned upon then please feel free to delete any of my instructions on how to do it.

Hello,

Note installing DA on an internal network is not supported and you shouldn't be doing it. Note that we do know who's doing it, and if it's being abused (we have magical tools) so you may void any support from us when you need help. I don't recommend it ;)

John

hehe, john may i ask you so how we that use multiple license of da and would need a internal box for testing, how should we do?

regards

bahh thanks for the response guys .. yes I do own a lifetime licence but as I have learned that it won't be possible :(
I knew the possibilities of somehow doing it without abusing the licence was close to zero. I guess I'll just read up and learn from my mistakes :D
