Is it possible to have DNS running on a seperate machine from DA itself? If so how would one go about doing that? I'm just about to install DA to give it a test run, but it's important for me to be able to offload database and dns services to other machines.
Thanks

You can run DNS anywhere you want.

Do you want to use the DA server as a hidden master? You can do that as well.

Do you want to be able to replicate your DA based DNS conf file automatically, either as an entire conf file, or as part of a conf file, on another server?

You can do that as well; either with your own software, or with the software we'll be releasing, hopefully by the end of this week. It's in final testing now.

Yes, yes! How do that? Where do I download it if/when you release it?

Thanks.

Unfortunately testing it has been delayed again :( .

I will do my best to get it tested next week, before releasing it.

I have a spare machine I will load Linux on to run this. Should I just load it up with a stripped down Fedora Core 3 or do You reccommend something else? I run my DA server on Fedora Core 2 right now.

I don't recommend running DNS on a "spare" server because I believe slave DNS should be in on a separate network at a separate physical location.

That said, any system with a static IP and capable of running DNS will do the job for you.

It will be on a seperate network. It will be located about 100 miles away on a seperate Internet connection from the our Directadmin box. It will still be AT&T bandwidth though.

Any more progress on your scripts? I know what its like to have to many coals in the fire.

Jeff; If you are still having problems with completing it in a month or so, I might be able to help a bit. I think it's going to be a bit less chaotic here in a month.

Thanks, Icheb.

We're actually hoping to get final tests done this week; perhaps even this weekend.

It's been hectic here as well; we've just moved into new offices and we're still not totally unpacked. (I'm posting today from a Windows machine at my home.)

Please let me know when you can test, if we don't have it out by then.

Thanks.

Jeff
