Hello,

I've installed openwebmail on my DA box.
it's working great with the main email boxes.

I can access yoavz / [email protected]
but i cant access let's say - [email protected].

I saw there that i have to setup each domain to work with the webmail system.

is it possible to arrange some script that will do it automaticly?

thanks alot,

It is possible to write a script to import existing domains into the openwebmail config file and add code to the script which can be run after DirectAdmin creates a domain so you don't have to do it manually.

I've never used openwebmail, but you're sure there is no way to have it automatically adjust and authenticate through imap like squirrelmail and horde/imp?

I don't really knows.

However, i'm sure that someone here did it before and i'm just looking for some info about how to do this.

thanks alot again,

I'd love to have openwebmail on DA as well.

Hello - anyone - out there - who has successfully implemented openwebmail on a DA install. Please share the recipe with us. Squirrelmail is missing all sorts of practical things like folder filters and being able to "Select All" emails on a page to mark as read or unread.

You have to be a happy openwebmail user that has always had about 20 things more than Squirrelmail delivers to know that Squirrelmail is missing a lot of these features. I've looked in the Squirrelmail site to see if I could add these features and no - they aren't available.

Squirrelmail also chokes on large email volume if you are trying to keep all past emails (for legal reasons). OpenWebmail just works with no problems no matter how big the email folders get.

I could go on for hours about how openwebmail is so much more useful and intuitive and efficient than Squirrelmail but I won't bore the nutty Squirrelmail users with those details. It is simply a case of you don't know what you're missing until you've had a good taste of openwebmail.

I'll gladly pay for a successful install of openwebmail on my server. An install that serves all users on the server just as Squirrelmail does.

Note: I also upgraded to Dovecot on this server. It sure is much nicer than the original IMAP system.

This is a rather interesting statement.

Squirrelmail chokes on large email folders in DA because by default DA uses mbox, which means an email folder is one large file, which takes time and space to rewrite every time a folder is loaded or changes.

Have you used OpenWebmail on a server using mbox and found it to work faster? That would be a good solution for a lot of us as long as it didn't create it's own set of mailboxes but continued to use standard IMAP protocol for it's folders and mailboxes.

Or are you comparing Squirrelmail on DA with Open Webmail on a server using Maildir?

Thanks.

Jeff

My experience with Openwebmail is on a Cobalt RAQ4

My experience with Openwebmail is on a Cobalt RAQ4 server using mbox and qmail where I never had a problem with 1000's of emails per folder.

I understand your comments about DA and mbox. I agree.

I have spent the last few hours playing with Squirrelmail 1.4.6 and playing with the plugins and the config.pl program for Squirrelmail - which I only found through a reference in a plugin README file. You'd think that the config.pl would be front and center in the DA interface - what a wonderful config program for Squirrelmail.

I've added just about everything I could wish for with ease. I'm pleased, surprised and hopeful that Squirrelmail on the Dovecot IMAP install on DA ,which I now have, will give me the speed, capacity and utility that I was used to with Openwebmail.

Why aren't these Squirrelmail plugins turned on my default in DA? It would have left a much different impression than the old impression I had of Squirrelmail.

I must say - I'm a happy camper now - what a difference a desperate day can make.

Thanks for the info Gerry.

Please tell us more; perhaps you (or we) can offer it as a plugin.

Squirrelmail Plugin install kit

Gerry posted a wonderful How-To on using Squirrelmail plugins.

I've taken the liberty of moving it to the How-To Guides section.

You can find it here.
