Hi all,

I've stumbled across a problem with one of our servers.
I am *not* able to send mail to my e-mail account from the outside.
I am *not* able to send myself a mail through squirrel f.i.
I *was* able to mail any address outside of the server. I could not reply.

The current situation:

when I send a mail to my e-mail address in squirrel:
- shows error "Service not available, closing channel
Server replied: 421 Unexpected log failure, please try later"

This is what I already did:

-Reinstalled exim through the exim.sh in the scripts folder, which bloated all about already existing files and folders. (tried it several times)
-I followed http://help.directadmin.com/item.php?id=41, with no luck.
-step by step checklist http://help.directadmin.com/item.php?id=16, no luck
- I even did http://help.directadmin.com/item.php?id=125, which enabled me to send mails to the outside, but sending mails to my own e-mail address or from the outside didn't work.
-checked the MX records for (bjorn AT e-crossmedia [dot] nl), seemed ok.

I'm ran out of options. Hope to find some help here.

I'm a bit further along now.

I'm able again to send maisl outside the server.
When I send the mail to my own address ( as in the same i'm sending from ),
the mail gets frozen :

2007-06-14 13:53:28 Received from [email protected] H=localhost (www.e-crossmedia.nl) [127.0.0.1] P=esmtp S=971 [email protected]
2007-06-14 13:53:28 [email protected] R=dnslookup defer (-1): lowest numbered MX record points to local host
*** Frozen

A reply on a mail to the outside address bounces with an unroutable address:

The e-mail system was unable to deliver the message, but did not report a specific reason. Check the address and try again. If it still fails, contact your system administrator.
<jes-fe2.zx.nl (tcp_internet_tmobile-daemon) #5.0.0 smtp;550 Unrouteable address>

Unrouteable address simply means that DNS resoluiton running on the server couldn't find the domain name to which it was to send the email.

Jeff,

thank you. It seems that the current config is able to send / receive by f.i. Outlook. It is Squirrel and the other webmail clients that are still having problems.

I decided to take the 3 packages and temporarily place them on one of our hosting servers and reinstall the entire thing during maintenance next weekend.
