password more then 8 char

we got a problem, if the password more then 8 char will be ignored.

for example:

login=abcdefgh
password=abcdefghxxxx

you can login no matter abcdefghx / abcdefghxxx

any idea ? is it directadmin only support 8 char password ?
 
Certain versions of linux and unix only support eight-character passwords.

What OS distribution are you using?
