Password protected directory requires double login

We have a password protected directory and where all files are at the same level. When we first try to enter the directory we are prompted to login. Once done we see the main page. If we attempt to view any other pages we are forced to login a second time. Once logged in a second time then we are able to go to all pages freely.

Why are we being prompted to login a second time?

Any help is greatly appreciated.
