Hi there,

I have a fresh installation of DirectAdmin with a remote database.

Everything seems to work perfectly, except when changing the admin password, I get the following error:

Error altering user 'admin': Operation ALTER USER failed for 'admin'@'localhost'

After getting this error, the DirectAdmin dashboard will keep reloading until I clear my cache. Then I am taken to the login page and I can login with the new password.

Can anyone tell me what it means?

I'm kind of a newbie to DA as well, so take what I say with a grain of salt :). But make sure you are under the same username/domain as the user or database you wish to change the password for.

I have had those kind errors in DA before, and it was because I was trying to change the password for a database which didn't belong to the current user/domain I was on. So be sure to select the correct domain and/or user on the top of the GUI interface.

Hi there,

Thank you so much for your response.

There is only one user on my DirectAdmin, the admin user, which would be the user I'm trying to change the password for.

I figured out what the issue was.

It turns out that when I use admin as the remote database username I get this error. When using any other username, the error no longer appears.

Is this a bug?
