Hi all,

We need to completely and permanently disable FTP from running on our server as we only want to use SFTP. Regardless of how many times we stop the process from within the DA control panel, it still restarts itself.

I have seen the forum posts on how to disable individual FTP accounts which isn’t what we want to do and also this article http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/linux-server-73/cannot-stop-httpd-named-proftpd-etc-718598/ which looked like it had the answer but to no avail.

Can you please give us clear instruction on how to permanently disable FTP from running form within DA.

I have sent DA support two emails on this subject several days ago and yet to receive a reply hence this forum post.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Thanks for the reply and I'm going to request that of my hosting provider. Is there no other way of switching this service off at all from within DA. Thanks.

Yes there is, and it's been discussed on these forums. If you stop the process from the DirectAdmin control panel it won't restart itself until a server reboot.

To stop that you need to (after stopping it from the control panel) turn it off in your server's startup scripts (from the shell). How you do that depends on your server OS distribution.
