From php.net: Please note that the PHP 5.3 series will enter an end of life cycle and receive only critical fixes as of March 2013. All users of PHP are encouraged to upgrade to PHP 5.4.

Did anyone else notice this or am I out of it?

I know that php 5.4 has removed a ton of functions that worked in previous releases of php. What are people doing to encourage customers to update their software so that it will work with php 5.4.

:)

so what? Many hosters till now have PHP 5.2, 5.1 and some even 4.8 (OMFG!) ;)

We have really only one option: 5.4 as default, and 5.3 as second.

PHP 5.5 is expected to be released March / April 2013 (so next month or a month later)

We've been using php 5.4 and playing with 5.5 in anticipation.

Once 5.5 goes gold, we'll upgrade to that and keep 5.4 as legacy (which technically it will be)

I wouldn't keep supporting 5.3 after march for customers anyway.
See it as a good thing, many customers will HAVE to update their software in case of problems,
what possibly in a normal case doesn't happen frequently.

I can tell
Many accounts have been hacked because of old cms versions,
I've recently seen accounts being hacked because of old software, and where a security advisory was send out january 2011!! (2years)
