php directives in directadmin.conf/php.ini?

I've seen the thread here
and tried setting safe_mode=on in both directadmin.conf and /usr/local/Zend/etc/php.ini restart DA with
service directadmin restart
and then create a new account and safe_mode is still turned off.

Question: exactly what file controls the "local value" of php directives and what file controls the "master value" of php directives?

The value in php.ini controls everything and should be set to off since webmail won't work properly with it on. The value in directadmin.conf control what new accounts are created with, which is by default off.

You should only have to add "safe_mode=ON" in directadmin.conf for it to work, you shouldn't have to touch the php.ini file

Just updated, and as of 1.234 there is an on/off toggle switch in the PHP SafeMode Configuration page on the admin level. You shouldn't have to modify any more configuration files
