I just got a dedicated server and requested that DA be included. I have never used DA so I am new to it. When I try to connect to http://myip:2222 I get an error that says "connection refused". I also checked the error.log file and it just says: "2005:07:05-17:37:11: The ip of this machine does not match the ip in the license file : 192.168.6.3<br>" a bunch of times. Could someone please help me out here?

DirectAdmin is not running because the license installed is not for your server IP#.

As a form of copy protection, DirectAdmin only works on the IP# the license is installed on.

If you bought your license to work on a static IP#, or behind a firewall on a nonroutable IP#, be aware that DA won't work on those configuratons; you'll have to either get a routable static IP# for the server on which you want to run DA, and then get DA reissued for that IP#.

If you've got a dedicated server from some other company besides JBMC (the folk who wrote DA) you need to contact the customer support department at the company you purchased/rented your server from.

I am not sure that I understand. My server is behind a cisco PIX firewall and is using an internal IP. However, the external IP is static. What exactly do I need to do and how do I tell what IP Address Direct Admin is looking for?

Is the internal IP# the same IP# as the external IP#, or is the firewall doing NAT ?

DA will NOT work behind any kind of NAT.

You can use a firewall, but your server must be on the same IP# as the public IP#.

Yes, it is using NAT. Web Hosting software should run under NAT and I really think that they should fix this. I will see what my provider can do but chances are that I will have to get rid of Direct Admin. That's a shame too. I don't think that it is right for any type of web hosting software to restrict security like that. Especially something as simple as NAT and definitely not because of copy protection. What a shame.

I disagree that webhosting servers "should" run under NAT.

The one time I ever tried to run a webhosting server under NAT it took me less than a day to realize what a pain in the neck it was to manage multiple views for DNS, and tables for all the IPs.

But it really doesn't matter what I agree or disagree with, because I didn't make the rules.

This been discussed on the forums several times.

It's both possible and reasonable for a firewall to work independent of NAT, so you can still use DA if your datacenter is willing to set it up for you.

I did not say that web hosting servers should run under NAT. Web Hosting software such as DA should simply be able to. The admins at my DC are taking a look at this.

Pix 515 and higher model can run PIX os version 7.0 which can support transparent mode.

However, it seems your firewall is shared with other servers, switching the mode will make other servers that is using NAT ....

Not sure if the firewall can run in 2 mode on the same interface at the same time( I think mostly not).
