I think Subversion (SVN) has become so important that it is time for control panels, like DirectAdmin, to include it as default (at least I have a lot of client that ask for it); with that I mean two things:

1: DirectAdmin should offer SVN in custombuild.

2. DirectAdmin should implement SVN in the control panel in a way similar to the way they have implemented MySQL.

Here is some Subversion news from february 2010:

Yesterday, the Board of Directors of the Apache Software Foundation approved a resolution creating the Apache Subversion project, marking the end of Subversion's time as an incubating podling...

Subversion is now Apache Subversion: http://subversion.wandisco.com/component/content/article/1/43.html

Perhaps. What do clients want serverside subversion for? Do they want a subversion repository they can use for development at their office (local to them)? Or do they want subversion so they can track changes to their site made by CVS?

As you can see, I'm a bit confused, which may be understandable since I'm not a content person.

Many of my clients are web designers on a hobby basis, and develop sites for themselves and others, and they use SVN for any changes they do when they develop sites. I am also using SVN myself. And because I don't offer SVN yet, we have to pay competitors just to get SVN.

I'm still a bit confused. Are you keeping everything on your webserver? That's dangerous. You need at least one backup (actually you need at least two, but let's not get into that), and it should definitely NOT be on the same server as your original. That's the same as no backup at all.

I'd suggest that based on what you wrote you do NOT need subversion on your server.

At the very least, you may need it on a separate server, in which case you may not need a control panel on that server.

All clients data on my server is backed up every night to a external server, and both the web server and the the backup server is running hardware raid.

_Yes_ I do want SVN on my server, both on this one, and the next one. And I do want DirectAdmin do include it.

RAID is an uptime solution, not a backup solution. Search the web for more information.

But without a good reason you're not hellping justify the work involved.

I did not say RAID was a backup solution. I said I took backup every night to a external server. _Then_ I also told you I was having RAID on both the web server and the backup server.
