Problems with your Forum:
1. It's slow (noticeable delays when post)
2. Not secure.
3. Full of spam.
4. DEAD with rare answers.


How to fix:
Because I'm familiar with xenforo, i suggest you to introduce Q&A fields in registration, or use captcha & Q&A related to directAdmin that has many questions and answers. Also, restrict users permissions for posting content to the forum until a user will be verified. Very easy to organize with permissions in xenforo.
For example, until a user will make 3-5 or more posts he will not be able to send pms, all of his content will be moderated.

Also block conversations for people who have zero posts.

Improve server speed please, forum lag way too much, probably hosted on super slow hardware. Thx

There is a captcha used. I don't know if they also use Q&A but i'm sure they also use the build in antispam. But there is room for improvement indeed.

In spite of my suggestion on Xenforo, only 1 question is asked, where it's far better with phpBB in which you can ask for example 3 questions.
However you should know that a captcha nor Q&A will prevent a spammer from coming through. They do not often come through tho here.

As for the 4 problems you mention, I think you're exaggerating.
1. It's slow (noticeable delays when post) -> I'm very often here and notice this rarely, so might be the connection or routing from your side.

2. Not secure -> Why not? It's on https, which security are you talking about?

3. Full of spam -> Thats not true, and if you report it, it will be removed and spammer blocked.

4. DEAD with rare answers. -> What do you mean with this? That staff answers too little? If yes, then I agree.

This was in effect on vBulletin. Might be a good idea to implement that again.
 
Number 4 is always true. The problem might be there are only a few staff who are monitoring this forum (you can look at the member section). DA team focuses more on solving ticket problems. If you post a bug in the forum, less chance you will get help even a reply from staff but if you post in a ticket they can help because the ticket section is what the customer paid for. It might be they have huge tickets to solve for and don't have time to be here.

A little nice word like this from them would probably make everybody happy and believe they are actually monitoring the forum:

"We are aware of this issue, the fix is coming thanks for the report"

"We have fixed the issue"

"Thanks for your report, we will look into this"

"Thanks for your report, could you provide more information in the ticket section"

Some of the bugs I posted (nobody else did) in the forum got fixed secretly without telling me like the above. Maybe most of them are good at technical things (fix more and talk less). and that is the problem too.

Says the person with only 3 posts.....They probably saw the PM spam and decided to rant...... By the way, you can choose who can PM........

Correct, but you don't need a lot of staff. To fix this, these days also user "fln" is present on the forums.

However, I do agree that on more issues, a little acknowledgement like the ones you mentioned would improve things a lot.
