Pointing Email Servers to a Different Registrar

Hi All...
My first post here...hope I can get some good help.

I just built a website and am ready to load it to my servers (Little Oak). The client would like to keep their email as is with their registrar and was told this was OK. How do we do this?

Their Support tells us that we need to point our email servers to 1and1.com (the domain registrar). Something about MX Servers, also have to go to 1and1.com.

I saw an area on the Little Oak Help Site about MX Servers, but can't figure it out from there. Client is now without a website since they couldn't lose their email.

Can someone help me out / direct me in the right direction?

I'm presuming you're a customer of LittleOak. Is there any reason why the folk at LittleOak can't help you with this?

You should be able to click on MX Records and follow the instructions there. But you should really ask your hosting company for help.

I am a customer of Little Oak, I have a resellers account (I'm kind of new to all of this, picking up as much as I can as I go along).

I have all of the instructions and know what needs to happen, but for the life of me, I can't find where the MX Records area is. Maybe I'm just impatient with this stuff.
 
If you cannot find the MX Records section at the user level login then either Little Oak hasn't turned on DNS management for you as a reseller, or you haven't turned it on for your users.

There's a reason why I say you should ask them :). If I've guessed right, you can reach them here.

on the user level..it does say DNS Control Off...so I would normally look at either the packages I've set up or the reseller area, and there is no area to turn it on.

I appreciate your time and help. I've sent in a trouble ticket and left a message on their emergency number...I assume that by sending additional emails it would just be repetitive. (would you agree)?
 
Then they didnt give you dns access. You will just have to wait for a response from them.

Is there any reason why they wouldn't have given me access to it?
 
FYI...I just heard back from Little Oak and here was their response.

"We are not able to enter the custom DNS at this time to point your email to 1&1. This capability does not exist in the DirectAdmin hosting platform.

We are preparing within the next 30 days to migrate all customer to a new platform. The new platform has a feature that allows our administrator to enter a custom record to handle the custom MX record.

In the meantime, your only option is to find a 3rd party DNS provider where you can enter the DNS entries you need"
 
Hahah what a sad hosting provider. You might want to find someone else to host with then.
 
Any suggestions? I have about 15 websites that they are hosting...I thought they were great, highly recommended. If there is one that can help me migrate it all over, I'd consider...
 
For What it's worth Little Oak did right by my on this and made it happen. they truly are a great company.
 
For what it's worth, DirectAdmin absolutely does allow this. If they turn on DNS for you, then the MX Records link does it.
