Im curious as to how you guys are pointing multiple ip's to the same DA server?
I have 5 static ip's that Im able to use. I can use the "ip passthrough" option on my router to pass one ip through to the nic on the DA box as to give the nic a static WAN ip. Although I am not seeing how to pass another static ip to the DA box so that I can use that for "ns2". Would anybody have any suggestions?

Thank you

One thought I have is keeping the Ip passthrough so that DA can have its static WAN on the nic but installing an additional nic giving it a LAN ip and IP maping one of the other static WAN's to it for ns2.
Any thoughts on that solution or any others?

Just adding the IP through the admin level should do the trick unless there is something special you are having to setup on your server beyond how it normally works...

Sorry I did not specify. This is a pre-installation question.

Those of you that have multiple ip's pointed to your DA box, do you have muliple nics?

There may be a few, but more likely not.

You can add the IP through ifconfig...

From what im understanding is that I need to assign a static ip address to a nic on the DA box making it wide open to the web. Hence it looks like I have no other option but to turn NAT off on the router, hence bypassing its firewall. Therefore leaving the DA box wide open to the web. Is this very safe?
Is this the way you guys are setting up your DA boxes within your network?

Thank you

Yes.

I suppose it is possible to setup some nice hardware that can allow the server access to the external IP while still providing firewall capabilities, but at least for me, it would not be cost effective vs. running APF on each individual server.

DirectAdmin requires an external IP address to verify the license.

It appears that TomM is using a router designed for home or small office use.

Since DA requires at least one public IP# that must be provisioned with NAT, it doesn't seem reasonable to install DA behind a NAT firewall.

I doubt any of us do so.

Are you planning on running DA from the same location where you're setting it up? Or do you intend to move it to a datacenter?

if the former, then you might want to install a switch between your Internet connection and your router, and connect the server before your router, on the public Internet.

If the latter then you should know that you'll have to change your IP#s and your license when you move the server to it's final location.
