POP Message List Reset After IMAP?

According to http://www.directadmin.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=12056&highlight=imap+redownload if you use IMAP after leaving messages on the server with POP, you have to redownload the messages on the server.

I've been leaving messages on the server POP with OE6 and after using IMAP with pine on the server, OE6 started to redownload messages from the beginning.

Is there anyway to use IMAP with pine and not have the message list reset so OE6 doesn't redownload everything?

Does anyone know why OE6 redownloads the messages?

I would consider converting to dovecot, but if you insist on using the UW-Imap and vm-pop3d, then I would search these forums for a patch I created for vm-pop3d to fix the uidl's from changing after the messages are read with imap.
