Hi,

Back in time with the enhanced theme.
Under "domain setup" -> "private_html setup" when changing the option from "use a directory named private_html" to "use a symbolic link" you would get a warning that content might be deleted.
This warning does not exist in the evolution theme.

As such I just had to restore a backup :D

Also note that there's a typo instead of "use a symbolic link" it says "use a symbolink link".

Thanks

It's a default when creating a new site... and the app got placed there automatically when selecting https and install via installatron.

Wasn't a big issue for me, but I can imagine it being
a) confusing for some and
b) a risk of loosing data/files

without the warning being issued.

Placing it in private is an Installtron problem. It should not have done that if you didn't have https set up before.

OK..

I'm just reporting a directadmin issue here. It is up to directadmin to do something with that, or not.

My post was not for debating who's fault it is that something ends up in the private_html folder or not.
Nor should I have to defend that the folder has content, either put by installatron or by a user.

My opinion on the matter is that if the private_html folder has content then it should not silently throw away all content before making a symbolic link. You are entitled to your opinion.

Thanks for the feedback.

I wasn't debating fault. I was merely pointing out something extra. Seems clear to me. If you opt to use a symbolic link then obviously the original private_html is going to be replaced with the symbolic link. But it wouldn't hurt to have a reminder. But in your case you admit you already knew what the behavior is.

Thanks Peter!

I had missed that change and is the correct answer to my report (it wasn't a question)
The report was posted here because not every user is a Linux expert and what is logical for me isn't always logical for an end user.
If that ends up as data loss then that is a pretty bad thing. I have made the change to directadmin.conf so that this should not be an issue anymore.

Thanks again.

Psst for the theme developer (or translator) "symbolink" != "symbolic"
