Hello all,
My client is using a standalone server with
- MySQL Server 4.1.11-standard
- MySQL Client 4.1.9
- phpMyAdmin 2.9.1
- DirectAdmin web control panel for domain/website maintance
- Linux CentOS 4.6 x86
- Apache 1.3.41 with PHP 4.4.8
- Client installed Joomla 1.0.12 with Traditional Chinese language (UTF8)
The client used DirectAdmin web control panel built-in backup/restore to backup the database, then modified some Joomla setting/component, and done something wrong by mistake, and then try to restore the database with the previous backup.
However, after database restoration, some Chinese characters cannot be displayed correctly.
Afterwards, we tried to login to the phpMyAdmin, and found there are no visible chinese characters but all are monster characters (except some English words).
Then, we also tried to compare the problem database, with client's another similar Joomla installation (but for another topic) database,
it seems 3 monster characters stands for one UTF-8 Chinese characters.
However, in IE, it can show the UTF-8 characters in PHP web page, but, when view the source, it is also some another characters.
We tried to use the last few days DirectAdmin backup files (actually it is a tar.gz with mysqldump file) to restore the database in seperate machine,
with the use of Linux mysql Command line client (via source command), but still no fruit.
Some Chinese characters are still imported wrongly (around 1 out of 5 Chinese character failed).
Some Screen Captures for your reference

Please help/advise.
Thank you very much for your kind advise/suggestion.
Regards,
George T.
