Problem with all email programes

Everytime i hit the email porgrames like Squirrelmail i get this

Error opening ../data/default_pref
Default preference file not found or not readable!
Please contact your system administrator and report this error.

and when i launch UebiMiau i get this message

OR (512): Smarty error: problem creating directory "tmp/_cached_templates" (/webmail/smarty/Smarty.class.php:589)

Plz help im relay confused

Try turning safe_mode off and see it it helps.

# perl -pi -e 's/safe_mode =/safe_mode = Off/' /usr/local/lib/php.ini
# /etc/rc.d/init.d/httpd restart

What file? smtalk gave you the exact commands to run.

Just do what I've written You can do this in "manual" way too In /usr/local/lib/php.ini fin "safe_mode = On" and change it to "safe_mode = Off". After the changes restart the apache service.

Im a new to this and everything, can u tell me exactly what to do when i login to the direct admin thing....sryy

You need to login to ssh and not the DirectAdmin. If you use linux with KDE - use Konsole for it, if you are MS Windows user - use PuTTy for it. Good luck.

this is a stupid question but i installed it and i have no idea what to do with it im using putty ....

Honestly ... if you don't know how to administer your system, even to run specific commands as posted, then you should probably hire someone to do what you need to do.

Putty the programe

Putty runs on your local system. So putty is not giving you this error.

What do you run that gives you this error?
