Hi!
I have another problem with mail (system: RH9).
When (ONLY!) one of my users like to send mail to his forwarder ([email protected] -> [email protected] || [email protected] ), he get answer from this servers:
This message was created automatically by mail delivery software.
A message that you sent has not yet been delivered to one or more of its
recipients after more than 48 hours on the queue on server.thc.net.pl.

The message identifier is: 1DD8Hx-0002OU-OY
The date of the message is: Sun, 20 Mar 2005 22:45:53 +0100
The subject of the message is: kolejna prob

The address to which the message has not yet been delivered is:

[email protected]
(ultimately generated from [email protected])
Delay reason: SMTP error from remote mailer after RCPT TO:<[email protected]>:
host mx.poczta.interia.pl [217.74.64.238]: 450 <[email protected]>:
Recipient address rejected: SPF policy: SOFTFAIL [ wyslij ten list przez wlasciwy dla Twojej domeny serwer pocztowy / please send this message through an authorized mail server ]

No action is required on your part. Delivery attempts will continue for
some time, and this warning may be repeated at intervals if the message
remains undelivered. Eventually the mail delivery software will give up,
and when that happens, the message will be returned to you.

The domain your user is trying to send to is using SPF. Look here for information on SPF.

The domain he's sending email to is bouncing based on lack of a proper SPF record. That's stupid.

But you're still stuck with the burden of fixing SPF so your user can.

First you need to find out the mail server your user is using to send the email, and the return address he's using.

If the return address he's using is from a domain on your server, then you need to fix the SPF record to specifically identify the server he's using to send email.

Information can be found on the SPF site (see the link above). The record is a DNS txt record, but it cannot be seen or manipulated in DirectAdmin; you'll have to edit the domain zone file (in /var/named) manually logged in as root, and then restart your named daemon this way after you've edited the zone file.

/etc/rc.d/init.d/named restart
