I have servers host ssl clients, all clients has dedicated ip, problem comes when the number of dedicated ip clients gets more than about 20~, proftpd would take very long time to startup or restart. not to mention when you have 200+ clients hosted.

After debugging it seems proftpd loads configuration files very slowly from each client.

I'm running CentOS 5 x86_64.

not sure it's a bug of proftpd or something else.

btw, UseReverseDNS off is already set in proftpd.conf.

try to see proftpd logs
and see what's happen

no error at all. as i said it's just loading configurations slowly and slow startup. no errors. it will eventually working, just need some minutes. no server load increase as well. everything is normal except the slow startup of proftpd. this has been happening for couple years when i start using DA, and it's been a problem with my servers with large amount of dedicated ip clients, even though it's not a big problem, sometimes still cause some issues.

Check your top command to see if you're using a lot of swap memory. If you are, then you can either figure out which daemons are using the memory, or restart your server.

If a server has been running only a week or so and is using a lot of swap memory, then you may need more main memory.

nope, everything is normal during startup, no high load, no memory shortage whatsoever.
this is an old issue, i sent email to John about it years go, but never able to find out why this would happen.
